What does career support look like?

At Gateway U, we have a 5 prong approach to Career Support.

  • Reflect on students and graduates strengths and interests
  • Prepare students for interviews (including resume building)
  • Explore career options
  • Develop skills experiences
  • Connect with opportunities

What’s a coach? How am I matched with one?

  • Coaches are academic and career advisors. They help students identify their challenges, refine their study skills, and improve their performance.
  • From our first conversation with you, we are getting to know you, your situation, and your working style to match you with a supportive coach who sticks with you through your entire college journey.
  • Students meet with their coach weekly to focus on reaching both academic and personal goals.

Is Gateway U a university? Are the SNHU degree programs accredited?

  • Gateway U is not a university. We're proud to offer access to Southern New Hampshire University’s competency-based education programs, combined with our wraparound support services.
  • Our students graduate from SNHU with an accredited associate or bachelor’s degree in their chosen field.
  • Southern New Hampshire University (or SNHU) is a private, nonprofit university established in 1932 with more than 3,000 on-campus students, over 150,000 online learners and an alumni network of over 150,000, making it one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.
  • Our university partner SNHU is regionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). Regional accreditation is the highest form of accreditation, and credits earned through regionally accredited programs are the most likely to transfer.

What makes Gateway U different from other higher education opportunities

  • Model combines online college degrees from an accredited and non-profit University with in-person support aimed at helping students succeed.
  • Each student is assigned a personal Coach.
  • Access to resources and supports: transportation, technology support, child care support, career development opportunities, etc.
  • Self-paced and low cost so you can earn a degree around your schedule with little to no student debt upon completion.

What are the application requirements?

To apply to one of our SNHU degree programs, students must have a GED or high school diploma.

Credit transfer

Can I transfer credits out of the program?

Each institution has its own rules about credit transferability, and so we can't 100% guarantee that the credits you earn in the program will transfer fully to a future institution of your choice.

I have college credits, can I transfer my credits?

  • If you’ve earned 60 or more credits from an accredited institution — or if you’ve earned an accredited AA or AS — you will likely be eligible to begin your studies directly with SNHU’s BA program (skipping the AA and significantly reducing your time to degree).
  • If you have under 60 transferable credits, you have the option to have a course-by-course evaluation, and may be eligible to transfer credits to the “associate’s degree track”.

Costs and financial aid

Are there scholarships and financial aid available?

How do I apply for Financial Aid and will I qualify?

Students can apply for Financial Aid here.

Pell Grant maximum is currently 6,495. If you receive the full pell grant award, your tuition can be less than $150 per term.

How much is tuition?

$7,000 in yearly tuition and fees for SNHU’s competency-based education program with wrap-around support services provided by Gateway U. Most students are eligible for federal financial aid. Financial aid covers more than half of tuition for the average student (and can cover up to 98% of tuition).

How long does it take to earn my degree?

On average, students can earn an associate’s degree in 9 to 12 months and a bachelor’s degree in 12 to 36 months.

What are the courses like?

We offer project-based degrees. Each course is filled with skills and concepts directly applicable to your degree. Some students say that our courses feel like working in a professional environment. You get to read and learn about a concept or skill, then demonstrate your mastery by completing a self-paced online project. Our students say that the online learning experience is well done and that working step by step through a degree builds not only knowledge and skills, but also confidence.

How many projects (credits) do I need to graduate?

1 project is equivalent to 1 credit. Students must complete 60 projects to earn their AA and complete 60 more projects to earn their BA.
